Family meeting, y’all, family meeting. We’ve called this meeting because the newsgrind of the Internet is batting around the increasing quantity of Porsche’s models, and rather than ignore it, we wanted to get some conversation going about the future. We’ve made some guacamole so we’ll be comfortable on our end.
Porsche has six production models—technically seven if you count the 918 Spyder, but why torture ourselves—and reputedly has plans for a sub-Boxster model called the 718 in the near future. We might also see a sub-Cayman, and a sub-Panamera. It’s all rumor and hearsay at this point, but there is business sense to it, so we want to start with a clear look at where the winds are blowing.
Porsche is doing fantastic. As Automotive News points out, the company’s 2018 goal of selling 200,000 vehicles could actually be met this year, as in 2014, though 2015 is a safer bet. That’s a phenomenal amount of growth, the kind that formerly only China’s GDP could produce, which is funny because China is expected to contribute a lot toward that growth. The Macan is also a massive, adrenaline-mimicking addition to the Porsche bloodstream, as we can well attest: Leith Porsche is currently sold out of the Macan until February of 2015.
So what do we think of this? Choice is a Porsche hallmark as you can customize any vehicle with an insane amount of detail. Far from being just an equal sheet of cookies in the oven, Porsche is like the world’s most famous car-bakery making incredibly unique cookies all piping hot and individually tailored. We have to concede, however, that the implementation of Porsche’s cookie sheet has been altered since the company’s relationship with Volkswagen deepened in recent years.
