Porsche Engineers Just Want to See You Smile, Especially in a Cayenne

The other day we were forwarded an email about the Auto Rest feature in Porsche Cayennes. It’s a button located to the left of the shifter that uses the residual heat from your engine to keep the car heated for up to 20 minutes after you turn the car off.

This would be helpful if, say, you’re running errands during the winter and want to run inside a store without returning to a freezing cold vehicle. Just turn off the engine, press Auto Rest, and the fan system will circulate the warm air. Wouldn’t that drain the battery, you ask? Your Cayenne will automatically monitor the battery’s reserve level, and it deactivate the rest system if power is too low.

This helpful feature made us wonder what other lesser-known features are out there, so we did a bit of research on the Internet and found a list of Cayenne tips you might not know about. Some of the top nuggets are:

“[A] switch in the glove compartment that, when switched on, diverts the AC keeping the glove compartment ice cold for beverages or sandwiches on long trips.”

“[If] the truck is locked, insert the key in the driver’s door, turn to the 9 o’clock position, and hold. All the windows roll down. Not so helpful now as during the dog days in the summer. Conversely, upon exiting insert the key in the driver’s door, turn and hold to the 3 o’clock position will close … any open windows and arms the vehicle.”

“If the side mirror control button is turned to the passenger mirror, when you put the shift lever in reverse the passenger mirror will turn downward to see the ground area when backing up.”

What do you think? Are there other cool tips we should know about it? Are these common knowledge to average Cayenne owner? Let us know if there’s something better that we should share. And as always, if you’d like to check out a Cayenne for yourself in person, we’d be glad to have you stop by at Leith Porsche. We love to give test drives! This helpful feature made us wonder what other lesser-known features are out there, so we did a bit of research on the Internet and found a list of Cayenne tips you might not know about.
