We don’t want to brag, but we’re totally about to brag.
In terms of pure driving capability, the Porsche Cayman has been on the list for “best sports car” for several years now, even when competing with its older sibling, the 911. Motor Authority has broken new ground in 2014, however, by naming the 2014 Cayman as a “Best Car to Buy” OVERALL. Flat-out, all classes considered, MA thinks the new Cayman offers the most satisfactory experience of what a car should be.
The mid-engined Cayman offers a slightly more pared down version of the Porsche aesthetic in terms of size and luxury, but retains all of the precision and power of its engine and handling. Why the Cayman instead of the 911? You’d have to drive both to understand that for yourself, which is something we definitely encourage you to do. And who knows, perhaps you’ll prefer a 911, or even a Boxster (which won Motor Authority’s “Best Car to Buy” award last year).
It should be noted that MA has said that the Cayman will share this year’s title with the Mercedes-Benz CLA45 AMG, a slightly larger performance/luxury hybrid that offers an equal amount of gut-wrenching snarl and communicativeness through the wheel.
Swing by Leith Porsche to know what it feels like to drive the Best Car of 2014; we’d love it!
