How many Porsches does it take to screw in a lightbulb?

Celebrity endorsements have been a viable business technique for a long time. The endorsement has been around for so long that we bet even among cavemen there was a cave man looked to for saying which clubs were the best for clonking heads and making dinner.

In this vein, we join in the “Throwback Thursday” trend, abbreviated #tbt, with a short video of comedian Jerry Seinfeld talking about what he finds so appealing about Porsches.

The video is a preview for a 30-minute show made by the Independent Film Channel in 1999. The show, “Welcome to the Family,” is about seven unique Porsche owners talking about their introduction to the brand.

Seinfeld is a known fan of Porsche, mainly because he owns something like 45 of them. We say “something like” because we’ve seen varying numbers quoted, and Seinfeld himself says it is not a number that you would hear and think, “Oh, that’s reasonable.”

In this particular video the comedian highlights the reductionist nature of Porsche’s design philosophy. It is, as he says, “The minimum shape that we can use to cover the mechanical parts that make the thing go.”

Seinfeld’s affection for beautiful cars is well-documented in his web series “Comedians In Cars Getting Coffee.” The focus of this series, like his previous venture, is as straightforward as it sounds. Perhaps in the interest of not showing favoritism, Seinfeld has only used a Porsche in one of series’ sixteen episodes—a 1973 Carrera RS that’s he’s clearly very fond of.

We are delighted to see such an enthusiastic car lover have a special spot for Porsche, and we bet that after watching him talk about and drive several of his favorites, you’ll have an urge to get behind the wheel of one yourself.

Stop by Leith Porsche to check out some of the new (and older models); we’d love to show you around.
